Diagnosing car air-conditioning problems can be tricky. If not approached expertly it can lead to unnecessary expense and or suboptimal outcomes – in terms of just how COLD your car’s air-conditioning blows.

The cooling efficiency of an A/C system can be upset by the smallest leak or contamination of refrigerant
- Typically the refrigerant gas used in car air conditioners these days is R134A (with the exception of cheap Hydrocarbon blended alternatives – which are NOT recommended by car manufacturers and are generally frowned upon because they are flammable).
- By nature R134A’s performance is highly sensitive to volume and pressure. A very small variation can have a significant effect on the air conditioner’s efficiency.
- A minute discharge over a long period of time can have a marked effect , preventing your air conditioner from being as cold as it is capable of.
